One of my favourite things to post each month is Storytelling Sunday, hosted by Sian at From High In The Sky.
We tell stories and this year we are telling them about belongings we consider precious.
Cinderella.
A second month with something made by my Granny and this time my beloved Cinderella doll which I remember having from a little girl although none of us can remember from exactly when.
Poor Cinders, she looks so sad with that tear on her cheek. I remember when playing with her that I couldn't wait to get to change her into happy Cinders because she looked so sad it broke my heart.
And she was so easy to change into happy Cinders because she is a topsy-turvy doll, you flip the skirt the other way and ...
There, all sparkly eyes and pretty dress.
Her original necklace and her plait have gone unfortunately and her lace is adrift but I think I will be leaving her as she is.
If you would like to have a look at more topsy-turvy dolls there are some here on pinterest.
Papers are from Dear Lizzy.
Thanks for coming to see me.
You've made such a pretty page for her! I've never seen a Cinderella doll, though we did - when my DD was little - have a cloth-doll witch which, turned upside down, changed into a benign-looking old woman (not sure about the psychology of this, now I think about it!). Glad you've kept her ...
ReplyDeleteShe's wonderful! I can remember seeing a pattern for a doll like this in Woman's Weekly when I was little and loving it..you lucky thing! Most definitely a precious..and that's a precious page to tell her story. Thank you for letting us see
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Your story and the page, too. Jen. I had a two headed doll when I was little that had belonged to my mum when she was little. She was black at one end and white the other. I wish I still had her.

She's lovely. I would leave her as she is too. When I photographed my rabbit, for today's post, I thought his neck ribbon was a bit tatty, but I don't think I could bring myself to replace it.

How lovely! I remember my daughter having a doll which changed from red riding hood to a wolf, but have never seen a Cinderella one before.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a talented lady to make the doll! I was fascinated with topsy turvy dolls as a child!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely reminder of childhood. I too would leave her as is - she's obviously been well loved.
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvelous doll! No wonder you think she is so precious!
ReplyDeleteOh this is such a sweet topsy turvy doll, I too had one a red riding hood that changed to a wolf/granny. Don't think that was hand made and have no idea where it went - handed on to a younger sibling I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely Jennie. My daughter had one that was a topsy turvey doll made by my aunt. I believe she still has that too. It is lovely to hold on to hand made treasures.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to still have that doll and you've made a lovely page. I think I remember the pattern for that doll (or one very similar) in one of my mother's magazine and I think I may still have it!
ReplyDeletei remember these dolls well, not that i was ever lucky enough to have one. Your doll is so wonderful, great page too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful reminder of such a talented Lady x many thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful. I used to love playing with topsy turvy dolls when I was younger :)
ReplyDeleteYes she is gorgeous, what a treasure and made by your grandmother. I haven't seen one of these dolls in years. Thanks for the link.

Beautiful layout and doll. I had a topsy turvy doll when I was little too, forgot all about it until now.
ReplyDeleteThose things from our childhoods are so special - mostly because back then so much was hand crafted. Things from my children's childhood were mostly mass manufactured plastic garbage! Great story and beautiful page.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she lovely! I always wanted one of those dolls.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute doll - and lovely layout to tell the story too! x
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a topsy turvy doll but I'm sure I would have loved one. Love your story and your page is super.
